Redang Island is an island in Kuala Nerus district, Terengganu. It is one of the largest islands off the east coast of Peninsular Malaysia. Redang Island lies within protected marine waters, also known as Terengganu Marine Park. Next to the main island Redang are many other smaller surrounding islands and has various beautiful diving possibilities for the aficionados. 

You will have to plan your trip wisely as Redang Island is normally not too crowded, unless during school holidays and public holidays season. You must be shocked that you will need to pay RM5 of entrance fee upon arrival. The fee is due to Redang Island being a part of marine park. The best time to visit Redang is between April and October. However, in October it might already be too late. The northeast monsoon blows from November to March. Most of the hotels and resorts are closed during this season.

The island is especially popular among travelers who like a bit more luxury during their stay. Redang offers luxurious resorts that meet international standards while restaurants are part of the resort. Most of the restaurants serve a mix of local and western dishes and the prices are relatively higher that other areas in Malaysia but it is worth it as you are enjoying the perfect tropical atmosphere at Redang.

Redang is a perfect area to dive. The reefs of the Redang archipelago are home to over 55 genera of corals and 100 species of fish. There are occasional sightings of manta rays and whale sharks. Almost each resort has its own diving school. If you are not the diving type, fret not, as Redang Island is a great place for snorkeling too. At some resorts you can directly snorkel from the beach which normally you will be taken to a place to snorkel by boat. Best spot for snorkeling at Redang is along Pasir Panjang; especially nearby Redang Reef Resort.
